Superbowl champion, Russ Francis was killed in a plane crash on Sunday afternoon. The crash occurred at the Lake Placid airport at around 4 pm.
Francis was one of two in the plane. The other man, Richard McSpadden, was also killed in the crash.
“Russ was a fan favorite throughout his playing career,” Patriots team owner Robert Kraft said in a statement.
“He was a dynamic player on the field who had an even bigger personality off it. He knew no boundaries, pushed the limits and lived his life to the fullest.”
Reports say that the plane suffered problems just after takeoff, causing the plane to crash.
Francis was the president of Lake Placid Airways and had been a pilot for nearly 50 years. The National Transportation Safety Board are currently investigating the crash.
