A New York City judge has awarded a former Equinox employee $11 million dollars because of alleged racial discrimination.
This sparked backlash however because the real reason she was fired was because she showed up late 47 times within the 10 months that she worked there. The former employee also said that Equinox used the fact that she was late 47 times as an excuse for firing her.
When you actually look at the fact, it seems perfectly reasonable that the luxury gym equipment brand fired her. Being late 47 times in the span of 10 months is insane, and the fact that she is now receiving $11 million dollars is terrible and is setting a bad example for the next generation.
“Equinox terminated her employment in less than a year because, the company said, she was late 47 times in the course of 10 months. Ms. Europe held a different view of her firing, believing that her lateness was merely a pretext for discrimination, and soon after she filed a lawsuit in Manhattan federal court, arguing that she had been subjected to a hostile work environment and eventually let go because of her race and gender,” the New York Times reported.
