According to a UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies poll that was cosponsored by the Los Angeles Times, 59% of California voters don’t support cash reparations for descendants of African American slaves.
Only 29% of voters support the idea of cash payments to descendants of African American slaves.
In 2020 California Governor, Gavin Newsom, established the California Reparations Task Force, which focused on giving money to descendants of African American slaves.
Earlier this summer, the Reparations Task Force recommended that all qualifying black California residents should receive $1 million, which was actually down from the initial idea of $5 million for every African American California resident.
